Need some flash help.
I have thumbnails loaded dynamically on the page from an xml document. After clicking the thumb - it loads a new .swf with bigger photos, etc.
How do I get the thumbnail to reference the correct clip when its loaded dynamically like that? Each of the thumbnails ends up with a name like _level0.thumbnail_19.
can anybody help?

flash help docs would be a good start

name each swf 'thumbnail_19' ! -(or what ever the number is?

you've got them populating in a for Loop right? Let me guess 1-18?

...or add another value to your xml elements that locates or calls the larger image movieclip. The earlier suggestion of just concating a new name based on the clicked thumbnail is the simplest.

hold on - uploading the .fla's

MX version:

Add this to the button onRelease:
trace(this+" : "+myThumbnail);Then this:
thumber = pic_mc.duplicateMovieClip("thumb... i,{myThumbnail:String = "thumbnail_"+i});in the for loop it will push the var myThumbnail into the button, you can use this to get the right thumbnail..
That work?

I hope I understood your problem correctly... not sure I did though..lol

ok so i have two swfs. one with the thumbnails.
the other swf is blank, which is where I want to view bigger photos of the thumbnail.
I don't know how to get the thumbnail to indicate the correct nodes in my xml, since the thumbnails are loaded dynamically.
does that help?
thanks for your help btw...
- joyride0
yeah, I see what your trying to do. No need to parse/load the same xml twice. It's already in flash, just pass the object over to the new swf...
I would add the data to an associative array, each node will have its one name, say thumbnail1 and then you can have the text attributes, detail attributes and what ever else.
so thumbnail1.text would be the text you want to say and thumbnail1.detail would be other data...I'm thinking i lost ya?

ok i'm following what you're saying but I don't know how to accomplish that! :(

LOL... yeah, i know, it's a bit more then a 10 minute help.
Where did you get these fla's?
I'll take a look at it later tonight and see what I can do... I might want to use it too. That cool? of course mine would be cooler ;)
- jakeyj0
yeah - that's waht i was afraid of.
the gallery fla was from kirupa and the other one i did from scratch...
you can use whatever you want.
thanks
