MySpace is trying to claim right over the content posted by users in their site.

bad for bands. someone writes the next "smells like teen spirit" and fox gets royalty free hold on it. awesome.
eff that place.

I wonder if this applies to all media. Like Video, Music, Art etc..
?

there's no way they could make money with those rights...they couldn't start a label or stock photo company based on the content that's posted

it's not about making money, it's about not spending it.
the content posted on myspace is allowed to be used for whatever purposes royalty free so long as it's there. so then newscorp could use a song for a tv ad on fox without paying hte artist, etc.

they still don't really have a very solid 'user' right or whatever...there's hits posted on myspace by top artists they can't use those

i don't think it's a big deal regarding bio pics, more for videos and stuff. what if the videos are loaded by some teenybopper who's put together a gondry fan site and has uploaded a bunch of gondry videos. are they really going to claim rights to use those videos?
i don't see a problem with them using pics, etc. for promoting the site, as it is a free site. however when they state they have "the right to sublicense through unlimited levels of sublicensees" and to copy, change, etc. your content, it's gets a little shady.

i think it has more to do with distibuting it everywhere and using compressions or other types modifications on the content...that much content can't go through them without something covering their asses.
