shit, I would bill it like normal and farm it out to juliet. Make even more money... then again a 2 hour shoot. What are you shooting with a poloroid? Have you ever shot a car in a studio? Didn't think so. It could take 2 hours to just get the lighting right. I think we're talking professional look & feel. Not flashkit.
And ad companies don't care what your skill level, it's standard to just bill as Art Production = $150/hr
yeah, my ego's big, but I've put my time in... and the reality is for ad companies if you bid $3 like your saying, you'll never get the job. Know the industry before you shit on it!

Juliet - your use of the term 'prententious' is rediculous. You fail to understand Quality also.
Also stop and think a second, Lady Juliet....
... do you realize the mark-up on the sale of just ONE car?... the commission the sales person will receive?
You should rethink your view of economics vs. quality and then come back to this thread.
But if you feel you're up to a battle of economics - stick around, cuz w/your ethic and understanding... I could have a whole lot of fun ripping apart your 'pretentious' attempt at an argument.
Final Thought: Quality is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
Again, Juliet - go look at the rights-management on Stock Imagery and get back to us w/your theories on 'pretentiousness vs. price of quality'.

But we still love you Juliet! We're sorry if thats what the real world charges. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but even if you charge $50/hr I bet when it's all said and done you'll have at least 40 hours into it. The pic will need to be cleaned up. Each shot needs to have the same feel. Most car studios have a revolving floor. Just renting the studio is $$$ More to it then your thinking.
The assembly in flash. yeah, pretty basic, but getting to that point is the cost. The end product will/should reflect all that attention to detail. So don't run & hide... we're nice too.

Enter response:lil difficult to be nice when you're being called 'pretentious'...
... because you understand value and quality and the economics that go with it...
joyride... you sucking up to girl cuz she's a girl? c'mon, man...
... c'mon.
- joyride0
lol... shit. She's no girl. Shes just pretending i'm sure. She can call me whatever she wants, i've had to justify what stuff costs many times. It's easy for people to see once you break it down for them. I've never had someone say, well, you shouldn't charge for that. We provide a service. EVERYTHING is billable if your working on the clients project. People get that.... hrmmmmm I'm starting to ramble... lol but no, nothing I said was because she's a girl. Just trying to educate like GI Joe

Ponyboy, knowing is half the battle

wow.. thanks for the replys. I didn't know that it would lead to such a heated discussion. I'm a photographer and a designer. The photography part is the hardes to do. It's going to be outside on a soccer or grass field.
Can't say much more at this time. But lighting the car is essential and will require some cleaning up in PS.
As for what i quoted the client. i think it's fair.. looking at some suggestions maybe a little low. But i did not think about the exposure that it will get.. etc. I will for next time.
Thanks to all that responded.

Its a good weeks solid work no matter how simple it appears to be... add in meetings, delays in the client getting back to you, adjustments, changes etc... you can't charge... probably liekly to stretch over 2-3 weeks
- tomkat0
I'd charge a fortune

Done 360's for superbikes, The photographer built a giant turntable and just droped the bike on top.
- Blueman0
yeah.. that's the better way.. but I need to rotate myself around the car outside.. I'll post the finished product here once done.. Probably within 2-3 weeks before it's live.
Thanks,

to Juliet:
mabey you you think your self as "roduction artist" and that is fine, and in your world, you get pay like one. people who live in a room all their life only get prespective from their own room... im sorry you don't ger the whole picture. if you think designers are just a production artist.. that is freaking sad.
- level2b0
I think this thread psychologically triggered something in Juliet that brought back bad memories of getting rejected from a project because her hourly rate was too "pretentious"..

setsolid you are an idiot. Designers are not strategists. A 3d app is not a marketing plan. Get the hell out of here.

...................................Designers is not someone look at Flash and photoshop all day... if that is you that is fine. there many type of designers at all levels... if you happend to be the local production level designer who never work for any bluechip clients.... then i can see why you view designer as such low rank job... why do you sound such KNOW IT ALL? i don't know... but... what you you said and type, calling people fools, idiots... we can all you just like you said... a production artist... and YES Designers can be strategists also. go read some books and magazines... read... and you will know some of the most sucessful companies have designers at senor management level. think Nintendo, Apple... can all designer be strategists and get paid more then a lawyer? no, and for sure not someone like you. if your talent and skills is limited... don't start putting down the entire industy because of you.

I wouldn't take her so seriously...
for one she just has a hotmail account and no site...
and secondly her email address is for gods sake
