where do i sign?

the apostrophe looks about 23% too large and isn't kerned correctly. draws too much attn.
- _salisae_0
same for the ® with the kerning
- iwlyfel0
yeah i agree with the type problem, i really didnt pay any attention to it.. it's just a quick draw up of one of many ideas in my head.. just something quick to get suggestions on the NAME
- kelpie0
the name is irrelevent if the apostrophe is about 23% too large...

explain the jewel tree then.
- iwlyfel0
well.. one design idea for the store i am certain of is im going to paint a huge tree starting on the floor going up a wall and onto the ceiling
probably going to do it a little more illustration-like with maybe some grass, abstract looking animals maybe.. a fun, colorful thing
but thats going to be a big deal inside the actual store so i was thinking of incorporating that into the logo somehow to get people to remember the place
- iwlyfel0
i know this is all sounding a little 'fruity' but thats exactly what i dont want it to be
colorful and fun, but definately not gay

do you also say goodmorning and goodnight to your precious laziness?
no excuses!
- iwlyfel0
well salisae i am a little lazy right now when it comes to the design of the logo and such.. that stuff is way too far in the future..
im got to worry about concept and money right now
im not really too 'smart' about typography anyway, im more into painting and music
very interested though

But, what you are describing is basically Urban Outfitters and I'm not sure a tree is going to differentiate your place from that other one even if you take care of the 23% apost.
Frappe La Rue has more kick to it than John Larou ( is that a rteal person of a made up tv name?)

http://www.dannylarue.com/ - this is who came to mind when i first read the name (probably unkown in the US tho)

summarize? anyone?
- iwlyfel0
yeah i know it seems very similar to urband outfitters but there are differences that will set it apart.. the main one being a bar/lounge area inside the store
and the huge focus on art and design inside the store.. i plan on spending big bucks on an architect and i want to sell mainly local artist's/designer's clothes, music, art, etcthanks for the feedback on the name though

"sic batshit": name of new store selling not gay baubles to college students with style in Austin, TX
- iwlyfel0
my 'partner' in this venture is my wife laura
my name's johnshe came up with it
and in one of my first posts i said i didnt really like it at first.. too fruity.. but the point was.. does it still seem too fruity when you see it with an image..the tree fits because of the tree inside the store
- _salisae_0
i was half joking. that is how my type teachers talked to me in school. thought i'd pass it on. you only get better with practice.
- iwlyfel0
thanks salisae
yeah, im practicing.. ill actually probably end up hiring a designer to do all of the graphics and stuff like that

I only use default kerning--it's not worth the effort to tweak it
- iwlyfel0
rand is pretty close to one of the ideas for a name i came up with
which is brand
but didnt last because theres no real reason to it.. i just like the word brand
and rand too i guess
