problem: too many bookmarks - takes too long to find anything,
attempting to keep them organised doesn't always work, in my case ends up in a mess
solution? a little app that indexes them and automatically categorizes them into your categories, so the user will end up with something like old school yahoo homepage with search and categories, the user would not need to config anything
the normal processing of bookmarking would not be affected
what ya thinking? thoughts? usefullness?

so del.icio.us is an app on the desktop? that sorts Your bookmarks automatically in categories and indexes them for you to find easily?
i have never used del.icio.us so i wouldn't know, i thought it was a bookmark sharing site

it's a social bookmarking site, but not just for sharing links. It's also for indexing and categorising your bookmarks with tags so they are all organised for you to search later.
what's the point of having a desktop app when there's a web site that already does the job?

why tag it when you can see it instead

why use a site when its done automatically without thought all ?
the idea was not to discover new sites but to maintain sites i had in my bookmarks that i could find easier without having to load up 6000 links in my browser and look thru everysingle url
!so i'm looking for a link i saw last week - i bookmarked it and now its in a list of about 1000 bookmarks - i can't remember the name only that it was about gadgets and the background color was bluish,
the app should find it!

the idea has nothing to do with social bookmarks, i'm quite able to discover new sites on my own, the whole idea of the app was to solve this problem
an example:with 3000 bookmarks(shown in the screenshot above) - the app should automatically index, categorize and allow the user to find them.
the unique selling point of the app is that the user has to do fuck all other than install it.

i think you're missing the point.
delicious is indexed, searchable and has descriptions, and runs in the browser. there's no need for a 2nd app to be running.

You could drag the favicon to a set of category folders in your bookmarks bar instead of saving them all in one folder..

ok jpolk gonna try and automatically index all my 3000 bookmarks and get them all indexed and categorised in my own categories????
ribit: with my idea you don't have to drag anything - its automatically place in the correct folder using bayesian filters

Why do you even have that many sites bookmarked?

ma.gnolia is similar to de.licio.us but also takes a screengrab of the site to place alongside the description and tags and whatnot.
there are apps that will export your browser bookmarks for de.licio.us and use the folder structure they are in to assign tags...your bookmarks need to be in folders for that to apply though
as far as automatic categorization, i wonder how accurate could that be?

fundatmental problem with automation is tagging them. or auto tagging them.
the basic strucutre of organziation is based on date, location, size, as per other indepth understanding of what the site is, it is subjective to a degree.
you would first need to build a library of tags that is comprehensive that cover most of genres.
than, automation must decide where it should go and how its tagged. that is subjective.
once you build a library, than comes search of information, how you are able to search.
soft search vs hard search.

it definitely a nice idea... if you could get it to tag based on the sites meta tags or content. Sounds easy... but its like a Karl Pilkington invention, 'you just injeect them in the temple'
