Anyone know of software for OS X that will watch a folder and alert you when the contents of that folder have changed in some way (no. of folders,files, etc) ?

you could set up a smart folder that watches the folder and shows you files from it that have been modified in the past x amount of whatever

That could work but I'd like something to alert me with a sound or dialog box when I'm working in another program.
