Hi all,
Wondering if any kind soul can help me out with a Dreamweaver query?
I'm trying to set up my FIRST EVER website so I can connect to my remote server using FTP.
I'm setting it up in the site definition box, I keep getting an error whenever I test the connection..."An FTP error occured - cannot make connection to host"
any ideas?
I've had a look on a few Dreamweaver sites with no luck at all...

Dreamweaver's FTP extension is terrible. Try downloaded a free third party FTP program from download.com

Do you have all the fields filled out correctly? Is you route host field correct?
Need more info. really

Dont listen to pluto. It's more than capable for what you need.
I'd ask you to post a screen grab of your settings, but dont do that. But you can email it to me if you wish, and if you trust me of course....

try just a "/" in the host route and test, else fails email moth.

To be completely honest Im not sure if all is filled in properley.
I wish I'd taken more notice when I went to that dreamweaver course now!
what do you mean by the route host?
The main thing I'm a bit unsure about is where it says what folder on the server do you want to store your fields in?
Sorry if I sound mega dumb, I've stuck to print for way too long so Im way behind on even the simplest of web stuff.
Really appreciate the help.

oh no not the wizard..
it's not exactly gandalf is it...
- pollypocket0
you can say that again...
- Dancer0
Um,
Yeah never used that really. If you use the advanced section you will understand more where each piece of info goes for future reference. It's really the most advanced tab really

giving it a try now.
thanks

right then.
I think I might be just about there now. All going well, its stopped getting the error message now and just as I feel happy with the world again i get...
530 login incorrect
I have checked my login and password what seems like 30 times now and still nothing.
Am i missing something?
- Dancer0
Does it take ages to come up with that warning or soes it pop up straight away?
- Dancer0
Have you tried unchecking the "secure FTP" box?
- pollypocket0
Hi Dancer,
Yes it takes ages to come up with that message. I kind of goes through the whole 'connecting to server' stuff and then says "FTP error blah blah - login incorrect"
I think my head might fall off soon.
I think I might well have tried everything I can but Im sure its the simplest thing thats Im missing...

You've got mail again Polly.

scrap dreamweaver's ftp and use Fetch or Transmit (pref)
use thier free trial period to do just that, it's so straight forward.

Have you clicked 'passive FTP' sometimes that helps!?!?!
