ok so i have had gmail for a while but just trying to use it. i want to be able to set it up to check my pop mail (but not remove it from the server) so its easier to check my email from work. is this possible?

forward your pop email to the gmail account.

yes and no, but mainly no.

as far as I know, gmail doesn't have IMAP for their mail, wich is what you said.. just downloads a copy of the message from server. the best thing is to setup a forwarder from gmail to other adress of yours at work, and configure only gmail's smtp for your outlook or email client @ work.

You can have it forwarded to your Gmail account.

but then when i get home, the email would not be in my pop account, right?

then set your pop client at home to grab you gmail and yep you got both.

pop removes from server. Imap doesn't. if you want to receive your @gmail on your pop inbox, you'll have to forward all emails going to to so you can keep your gmails in google server.
if your work email is already configured, then you just have to wait for the emails coming from ldww@gmail to arrive

sorry bout the confusion.. its simple

I use gmail to sent and receive my pop email, i remove it from server and use the forwarding to gmail, will it affect receiving some mails?

POP doesn't delete it from the server either if you tell it not too. In fact, there's not much between POP or IMAP, except that blackberry users were conned about IMAP being new fangled cleverness, which it isn't.

but POP cant synchronize mail across multiple computers... I stopped using POP a few years ago, cant figure out can stand using it...but then I'm multi-tasking/multi-location/don... sleep etc...
