Nintendo's startagey is not to be number 1, right now they want to be number two.

Hmmmm maybe I just am crazy. But if you look at the lack luster performance of the game cube putting the once game giant into a snug 3rd place. Nintendo doesn't have pockets like Sony, or Microsoft. Gainning first place in this round of the console battle is unrealistic. Securing a second place spot will generate more revenue for RD the next time around.
With Microsoft rumored to have an actuall handheld in the works, they need to focus their on maintianing their cash cow in the hand held market.
It's not cheap to make this shit. If Nintendo made a number 1 console and it failed. They would be out of buisness.

yeh true. they'll be happy with 2nd, but am sure aiming for 1.
in any case nintendo are maken a fair profit, unlike sony and ms off their hardware.
and at the end of the day- who cares. as long as the games are kick ass.

At first I didn't like the name at all, but if you really think about how the brand works and how it goes along with their current branding its pretty smart.
It has a solid concept and the logo has a good look and feel. They're going for the casual gamer and need a name that doesn't get slotted with other systems. The "i" looks like the controller, the ii's look like two people playing. It just has a lot of character and potential.
Great branding.

interesting article
During the interview Steve Manning became convinced that Nintendo had deliberately picked a bad name for the console and that it was, in fact, fake. Manning thinks that Nintendo is creating an enormous viral campaign by releasing a fake name and then coming back during E3 and announcing the real one.
It looks like he’s not the only one who thinks this. Site Snark Hunting is also convinced, here’s why...

I thought it was weird that the wii announcement was under 'revolution.nintendo.com' that just seemed lazy.
