madness?
I'm curious... what's the turn-out at these kind of things?
Is basically an overwhelming sea of designer jeans and clever t-shirts?... or is it balanced? Age groups?... turn-out numbers? (how many on average show up)...
... and are the speakers even worth it? Because I find 'smart' people - at least technically driven smart folks are the most booooooring sons of baskets to listen to...
I'd like to go to one of these events... a BD4D, Fitc or Flash forward type thing... just curious if it is 'worth it'.

its also good for business.

so you're saying it's like any other AIGA event etc where everyone gets together at a nice joint to 'network'...
... aka - drink.
- dinky0

time for a new suit

Its all about crashing the parties anf getting drunk, then puking during the next day presentations.

I'm here...
Presentations thus far have been interesting. Good to hear some people talk that I previously haven't seen in person.
I'd say it's worth it, I'm not much into networking and all that. But, I've never been to one of these events before... I'd say you should go once. I'm the sole in-house guy where I work, so it's nice to be around some people of similar mindset.

So, who all is here?
If anyone else is here, and you see a guy walking around with a red hat that says "firestone" on it... that's me.
So, say hi if you like.

Some of the speakers are definitely worth it (Josh Davis delivers some amusing anecdotes..) and McFetridge, and them Adobe/Siggraph cats. If you can go through a company and have them write it off, definitely go. Price tags kind of insane, otherwise.

Instead this year i am thinking about checking out Design Thinkers 2006, they usually get some great designers out, I just hope their student prices don't go up!
There are a few speakers like mentioned who can speak well and are motivating such as Josh Davis, or Sagmeister like they have this year, but I find there are often many presentations that arent as thought provoking as they could be.
Does anyone know anything about the resfest screening in TO tonight? I don't think I am going to check out any of the FITC after stuff.
- dinky0
i am sitting at home cause its rainy
i might melt if i head out side

The resfest screening is at the Westin Harbour Castle (location of the conference) - not sure if non-attenders are welcome. Usually, for these events, it's like a $10 cover charge. However, I wouldn't be surprised if you would be able to slip in.
