ok, so I'm working for myself now and trying to wrap my head around quickbooks. I don't know what to put where and if I am doing anything right...
Anyone else start out and deal with this? Any good resources for an accounting idiot so I don't F it up too bad?

I've been sending my stuff to an accountant for the last three years and this year I'm going freelance and am planning a trip in to his office here next week and have him show me how to set it up right. It will be worth whatever he charges to do it. $100 now beats the heck out of $1000 later 'cause I screwed it up.

yep... I've got similar woes...
I hired someone to ocme and show me how to get started, set up the accouts etc. It's a great program in that it'll do all you want it to do, but it's not all that friendly as far as a proper work flow of client care. I also don't care for the way it tracks accounts, it lumps everything together in the 'accounts' section. It's a slow pick up, but I know people that have been using it to run their studio and love it and swear by it, so I stick with it in the hopes of it getting better.

Same thing here. I asked my accountant if it was worth learning Quickbooks and he said 'no', not now (I'd say I have an average of 4-5 projects going simultaneously, currently more).
Just too much of a pain and not worth the time (according to him and it sounds like he's right).
$100 for an accountant to file your taxes? Even H&R charges more than twice that. Better hope he knows what he's doing. (fyi I paid $260 and think it was a superb deal)
