Quick Q:
Is it cheaper to get 2 pantones printed or C, M and K printed?
Thanks

depends on the printer.
i know printers that print cmyk even cheaper then some printers do even 1 pantone.

Unfortunately I am not in contact directly with the printer on this job....and there's me thinking it would be an easy answer.

Technically two pantone colours require two plates, and process requires 4 pates, so you would THINK it's cheaper to go 2 spot colours, but as the last person said, some printers will belt out 4 colour process for less money. But that could be because they're ganging jobs together, in which case the print quality might suffer.

Pantone is cheaper because you only need 2 plates, CMYK needs 4.
There is no way CMYK is cheaper.

It was actually just C, M and K (no yellow).
As it happens I finally managed to get hold of my Account Manager and she quoted for 3 spots anyway.
Thanks All

I miss those days of dance contests and rapping with Bud Bundy!
I'm working from home today and I am going to get together some gil prints and send them out. I promised one to Janne and I will include one for you in his envelope also.

1 or 2 pantones are generally NOT cheaper.
99% of your cost (i exaggerate for effect) is CLEANING the press.
they will run cmyk jobs for days.
they will run your pantone color ONCE. no one else is using your pantone color, press needs to be cleaned.
nothing to do with number of plates, that cost is trivial
