OK I know this is totally the wrong time to post here but I've got a dliemma.
I have to move out of my flat in 2 weeks. I've found another flat but it doesn't have cable and there are no services available there.
When I move to the new place I need to get some broadband hooked up but I don't want the usual USB modem crap you get with most UK services.
Can anyone recommend a decent provider I can use my Airport with?
I have to tell the property people on Tuesday if I want the flat so I need to work something out soon.

are there no other wireless connections in the building you can borrow? i mean if they don't password it then fuck em

I won't know until I get there, then it might be too late. I think it might be ok, but a lot require 12 month sign-up, and I don't really want to use BT Broadband and have my downloads limited and have them charge me £80 for a modem.

I had telewest (which I'm guessing you had too) and when i moved into my new place they couldn't supply it here. I tried TISCALI but they were pish, then I tried Wanadoo who are a bit fucking annoying as they don't have tech support for WIRELESS for mac even though the dicks told me they did when I signed up... anyway, after a bit of a faf, my 'Livebox' wireless modem is set up and is the dogs balls! I just open my laptop and I'm connected anywhere in ma hoose, it's smooth. If you go for this and need a hand lemme know 'cos as I say, it's a CUNT at first... It's £17.99 a month and the modem (rental) is free.

Cheers Jos, was just checking out the Wanadoo. Think I'd need the £27.99 option though cause I can get through 2GB in a day sometimes. They say you can't install the wireless adapter with a Mac though - are they talkin pish? Seems like whatever I do I'll have to ditch the Airport.

Fuck, on one page it says OS X is ok, the other says you need 9.2. Fucking dinosaurs the lot o them.

Dont listen to their tech support. Any decent ISP is compatible with Airport... its all done to TCP/IP standards.
Dont take their modem. Just hook up your Airport basestation or a wireless/router/modem like the Netgear DG834G.
If you are in the coverage area, you could get the wirless service from http://www.now.com/
Its not real fast, but you can get a one-month contract, they just post you the modem and you are online straight away when you move in, post the modem back when you decide on a wired ISP.

depending on what you need...I've had good experiences with Zen (good service, home packeage included up to 8 static IPs), Bulldog (business package), and Homechoice offer a fairly cheap bundle of TV, phone and 2mb broadband...

Thanks, I'll check those out.

Very small company that only do Macs, they know their stuff but did take ages to set up, they blamed BT???
No contract,
No speed caps
and 8 meg. But, there is a set up fee.

surely all you need to do is setup a wireless network and once thats done, any computer can connect if they know the password, be it a mac or a pc.
so basically you just need to be able to get your airport working with your internet. so I imagine you just need a modem with a ethernet port, plugin in the airport and bingo bango you're on the go...
so all you need to do is find a decent isp and throw away the usb shite they send you and drop about £30 on a decent broadband modem to pluginto the airport...
as for isp, I wholeheartedly recommend demon at £20pm for unlimited 2meg.

Don't know where you're moving to, but I'm with Bulldog - and although they get bad mouthed everywhere for their bad service etc... I never had any problems with them. Broadband connection is coming in over the phone line, I hooked it through a router which is connected to my base station. Voila!
