have you changed your input sound device to line in?
- v3nt0
yeh - you don't need to change it though. but there is no response when i look at the sound pick up bar in sys prefs - unless there's somewhere else i select it?

the input on your pbook is likely a line in. the output of a mic does not have sufficient gain to be audible when plugged into a line in. you need an extra stage of gain, like a mixer.

you should still get something no?, one bar of noise...
guess u might have to buy a pre-amp.
my stuff all goes through an external audio interface. but i used to just go straight in (when i was a poor student!)

looks like pre amp is the way. fuckas.

is it just for simple recording? or do you want it for quality?
cos u can get active microphones, some specifically for the powerbook/iBook i think.
then u dont need to splash out on a preamp.

my ti books got a built in mic - works fine with skype. I know my friends alu powerbook has a built in mic too - no need to plug anything in
