There's opportunity for everyone in this country. Unfortunately, a lot more for some than others. D12 rose out of the rubble of Detroit to become superstars in the rap world, but that doesn't necessarily make him an upperclass, socially accepted role model. He was still the person he was as he grew up in that shitty ass neighborhood. I've never lived in Detroit, so maybe I should bite my lip... but I did grow up lower middle class/poor in downtown Las Vegas. All I can say is I'm lucky for having a mother who loved me and looked out for me until we moved to the suburbs in 1986. Just that change alone has helped me live what I believe is a better life than what I would have had, being involved in that bullshit downtown.

nice work point5.
One thing I don't appreciate from son is the idea that if you aren't black, you grew up with some sort of silver spoon in your mouth.
That isnt right, man.

its sad when you have no hope that you can't do any better then what you live everyday. Why blaim the man? It's not his fault. When are people gonna take responsibility for their own failures. I don't expect anyone to take care of me and give me a good life. You've gotta have drive. If you don't, well, you end up nothing. Play within the system, I see people everyday that can do it.

lack of education makes this shit societal. people don't realize they have other options. in many ghettos, the cops won't even go into certain neighborhoods. why would a social worker? or a good teacher that can make better money in the suburbs?

(Apr 12 06, 21:40)So your saying it can't be done? That hard work and drive won't get you anything? That society has a plan to keep people down? Well I must have lost my fuckin handbook because this is news to me. Oh, i've heard that shit before but I think it's just an excuse. And I'm not saying education is the key, life can be just as good as an MBA. Its what you do with your knowledge... You got a plan, work towards it. You don't have a plan, well look around, plenty of examples of what usually happens.
