i'm designing an online store for a custom stationery business. client's identity materials already include these purple polka dots so those have to stay:

It's got the right feel I think...the menu is getting a bit lost as your focus moves to the outlined elements...

good point, jevad. how could i fix the menu?

I don't like the nav, at the bottom right. Maybe locate else where.
Not sure about the background either, might be good just white?

LMAO - I love a great first response.Anyhow...
I think the circles at the bottom are somewhat distracting. Also, dare I say I think the cursive-esque text would like nice with a simple drop shadow, both above the middle picture and in the purple box at the bottom.

The circles are really throwing me off. Also try a thinner line for the background lines.
The nav text needs a bit of work as it gets lost. Everything being purple the text blends in with everything else. Maybe a bit more contrast on screen?
I like the layout and the page design though.

If the dots have to stay, could they maybe be moved vertically to the left, to appear like a book binding/spine?

The featured procut is lost and very hard to see. You should put it where you have the big image. If you need to keep that "browse our invitations" link, make it three small photo links along the side of the big featured product link.
Also, the search should be up next to the sign in and the shopping cart. That way all your Toolbar is up top and your nav in on the side, and your product links are in the middle. Just makes for a better user experience.
I like the colors, I like the BG. The break from stripes to polka dots seems arbitrary.
In general there is a lot of wasted space. Things are floating in space a little. Once you tighten it up, solve your background issue and organize your links/buttons a little bit I think it'll be tight. You've already got a great look going. Take it like 2 steps further and you're there.

thanks for the feedback. is this better??

you're background elements are too big (the dots) and they overpower your content box

yep it's much better, i'm not still sure about the BG, lost the spots and that leaves the stripes?
