Don't sell yourself short lebowski. You're actually a cunt, but a somewhat likeable one as you try so hard.

are there any sites or for dummies kind of books about setting up a LLC and trademark, etc?

lebowski.
Please show me one, just one of your work and if it's better than mine I'll give you my password to this account.
That or try harder at your trolling.

Some of my buddies have an LLC or an Inc.
They aren't just status symbols at the end of their company name. Being one of those protects you as a business against some things.
Other than that I don't believe you need a business license.
When doing your taxes though as a freelancer there is a place (on Turbotax for instance) where you have to give a number to identify yourself as a 'freelancer' but it was an easy thing to get from the State's website.

What licenses do you freelancers have? Do you just need a business license, or are there others that are required like a seller's license, etc?
