You're probably right Bask, a nice graphic circle with a 6 looks better than "The Victoria Line".
I remember when I first went over to New York, I ended up stranded up in Harlem asking what the number 6 Line Was called. There's me being terribly British asking this big black guy what The Number 6 line was called... Jesus wept.

on holiday this year I was thinking which way was better (having been on 4 different undergrounds, with London the only one to name its lines); whether its better to use the numbers for immediate understanding or the names for a more longterm 'memory map' if I might use such a wanky term ;)

i love the names and think it's a bit too clinical to do away with them. learning little by little all the etymologies of the station names in london is one of my favourite conceptual explorations of the city.

changing the subject from Para and 3 raised wanks I just booked up for the vignelli lecture and the Kidd one too. The terry jones lecture has been moved to the 16th may by the way, which is a shitter as he's a great character.
