Any freelancers out there been in this situation?
One of my regular clients have told me they are wanting to bring extra resources in house and they want me to be that person. They're wanting to negoitiate a cut down price as they are offering me a few days work a week over an extended period. The problem is, if I do it, I'll have a hard time booking the other 2 days a week every week, so I don't think I can afford to drop my prices at all. How can I tell them?

like you told us.

Yeah I guess so, I think they'll probably drop me as a supplier as a result which isn't great
- rasko40
so offer them a slight reduction as a gesture

I just got asked something similar. One of my regular freelancers actually offered me a full time job doing all the design work for his 3 companies...would go down to 3 or 4 days a week after 6 months...
I turned it down, but if you think you can fill the other days and it's interesting work..
let your instincts tell you what to do. If you can't afford it, just explain that to him.

Evenings and weekends I work on direct clients - through the week I work for agencies

you need to work that much??
- NOVOLUME0
I guess I don't need to, but my family are only living off my wage at the moment while my wife's business gets up and running

i'm in the exact same position right now. it was hard to fill the empty days the first few weeks but now got everything back on track. it's only a matter of time and planning.
- Timson0
should have mentioned, i negotiated a full-time payment over the first two weeks (only worked 3 days) just to get me organised and help me close the gap.

Did you have to drop your normal day rate Timson?
- rasko40
tell them you are increasing your rate but will offer them your existing 'low' rate.
- Timson0
yes, i had.
