most comic book artists (at least that i've known/ heard of) have been developing their style since they were kids and have some of the most refined artistic talent out there... not really something you go to school for.
if buddy really wants to learn to draw like that in an institution he should probably consider studying animation.

your friend needs the most important training on a daily basis for anatomy and human figure illustration instructional classes. anyone who wants to work in the comic field today MUST be a good artist. you must know full knowledge of the human figure and how muscles work, how they move, how they fall, your friend needs lessons with perspective, layout, and colour.
anyone who tells you that you dont need schooling is an idiot!! there are so many poor artist in the comic book world that the ones who shine are definitely the ones who constantly practice and are on top of their work. they are constantly studing the body and life in general.
i wish your friend good luck!!!

Isn't being a comic book artist a poor career choice unless you're very talented?

1) We are in South east Asia.. Singapore, becareful not to spin the globe too fast, cos u might miss the little red dot.
2) yeah he's an animation student, i guess education is also about meeting people from the same field, yeah, learning is important, but i guess it would be awesome to study in a school where everyone's passion is on the same line.
3) My friend really appreciate the tips and suggestions :) Thanks...

I think SCAD is the only school in the US that offers a degree in sequential art.
