she applied for something called the fast stream - which is basically a selection process for government departments in england (civil service), where you enter at a management level.
Its really tough, they interview you loads of times, 20,000 people apply every year, and there are only 200 or so places. Most people try it on average three times before they're successful, but she just found out that they're accepting her - first time round.
I'm really excited, its great news.
just thought i'd share it...

On a positive note:
BLOODY WELL DONE!
On a cynical note:
Yet another recruit for the outrageously bloated Civil Service.

- paraselene0
she certainly does!
well done, interweb acquaitance's lady!
- mrdobolina0
congrats, Im not really sure what this means but it sounds like you are happy about it. right on.
- rupedixon0
bloody well done indeed - however the civil service isnt so bloated anymore, everyone's been laid off, now they're all consultants...
uber - its not the miliatary, she wants to be in the diplomatic service (she's into international relations) - i'm hoping she'll become an ambassador, then we can have "receptions"
*buys bulk load of hazelnutty chocolatey treats

- chaztoo0
will she get to be a secret agent? That would be rad.
- rupedixon0

- Lucylu0
It's me! Im web acquaintainces lady that rocks.
I am mostly looking forwards to my future of tea counting, civil service bloating and diplomatic imunity!
- paraselene0
my flatmate's brother-in-law is in the diplomatic corps and has just moved to nyc. they've had a hell of a time getting anyone to let them a flat because apparently diplomats will just take off without paying and there's nothing the landlords can do about it.
they had to pay a year's rent up front!
congrats, lucy. well done.

Is this the new Bond casting?
- Lucylu0
I'd better start saving.
A strange thing, diplomatic immunity, Why do they do it?
