rafalski, 'all that you cant leave behind' was produced by eno. as well as some tracks of the demos on the new one. that must change your view on them now that maestro eno's fingerprints are on them.
bradpitt, must i bring up some of your recent role choices???

haha, you watch out 4cy! guns are a blazing in this thread!

Exactly, Baskerville! I love you for saying everything I want to say today. In your first post, anyway.
They are an average group. The only song I love is 'Beautiful Day', and that's even mediocre.

U2 are gonna get so gnarled and wrinkly that they might end up forgetting their instruments backstage while Bono dry humps an adoring fan after toddering off the proscenium.
New genre to consider: wrinkle rock

I swear it’s almost cool nowadays to put people down for trying to do good. Some of the replies in this thread are hilarious. Take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Sure Bono and Geldof are annoying, but I’m glad there’s someone out there trying to make a difference, whatever their agenda might be, at least stuff is getting done.

So, mattyd, (with guns blazing), Jalines opinion is invalid because of her other tastes in music and Baskervilles' is because the "new your times" says otherwise? Never read it myself.
Haha. Fuck off and come back with some actual guns you twat.

and what say you, mattyd, to the absolute hypocrisy of the ticket prices they charge in south america...
...while playing african gigs for next to nothing so that the "people" can afford to see the "people's band?"

(sorry to bait and run, but it's well past my bedtime)
'night, y'all.

I've seen so many concerts, so many different genres and styles, from small clubs to giant football stadiums since about 1991. Pearl Jam to G'n'R to Pink Floyd to Radiohead to Sigur Ros even AC/DC, and I have come to one conclution:
Nobody that I've seen can touch U2 live.
Disclaimer: Pink Floyd was close. I haven't seen Massive Attack and Arcade Fire yet, I hear they play a mean show.

Couldn't U2, Bob Geldoff, Brad, Angelina and that micro soft dude feed the world and abolish world debt all by themselves? Good cause but I can barley afford to go drinking every night.

I'm just tasting it to make sure it's good for tha starvin children

No kidding quamb. If Bono didnt bring attention to famine in Africa, or the Beatles did not canvas for peace, etc.... do you think GW Bush Inc. is going to care?
And as for the mediocore music? opinion.
- pyeaton0
Thanks to the music expert for providing their facts about this muic. I must have been into this mediocre band. thaks for showing me the light!

for my final stance i will say this: u2 are the best band in the world today. to argue that would be futile.
you may not like their music. you make think they are a bunch of asses. but, you have to consider that they have been around for almost 30 years and respect and accept the fact that they are still on top. what band can say that? even the stones fell off in the 80's. they've sold close to 100 million albums, they tour the world for two years after each album to be able to make it to every place they are number one on the charts.
to say that they are 'average' and that the only reason they are big is because of bono's politics is absurd. 'average' bands dont do what they do. and u2 was massive during zootv in '92-'93 which was 8 years before he started in politics.
it should also be known that the king of cool, miles davis, only listened to u2's 'the unforgettable fire' while on his death bed. 'average' bands with 'mediocre' songs dont get that kind of respect.
a lot of the comments in this thread are laughable. i dont mind if you say you don't like their music or that you dont like them personally--everyone is entitled to their opinion. but to say they are 'average' and only big because of bono's politics is pretty ignorant.
these are the same people shitting on u2 that listen to sigur ros hit one note every ten seconds. now THATS an average band. average being an overstatement. makes me want to slit my wrists.
