I am thinking of taking out a Google Adword campaign. Does anybody here use it? If so, has it been fruitfull, do you have any tips etc.
I have just set up a small graphic/web design studio in the UK and I looking for new clients. The first option I have is to decide on the location, am I right in believing that I can set my ad to only appear locally?
Just so confusing.

Hey Lw-d, yeah you can setup your ad to appear locally. Why not go through the whole thing of putting an ad online without paying for it, it won't cost you anything and you can check out the functions of the system while you're at it.

Just though I would bump this is up for the UK users, I posted this late last night.

Our company tried it and the cost vsclick vs actual jobs received was not good.
Theres just too much competition in that area on Adwords.

I've just set one up and have had one response so far. But i've done it very locally and not bid all that much. Give it a go, hardly costs owt, and you can always stop.
Just dont tell your mates, as they'll probably click on it without thinking!

I dont trust it either. Google says my link was clicked like 54 times, but when I checked my server logs, there's blatantly only 4 referrals from Google.

Would that include inline Goooooogle links in 3rd party websites?

(Mar 7 06, 04:21)sometimes you will get a lot of clicks from the content network (adsense users) and these would be (or should have) shown in yr logs?

i set up a site for my parents' B&B in australia. put up a google ad to appear in the uk only, set a budget limit to 2 clicks a day. Their B&B is full of brits all year round, and it's all cos of the google ad (i've checked the referrals)

Well. I used it on one of my personal websites and displayed google adsense adverts on pages at my site. I've earned over 250 dollars in 2 months, which is not a fortune, but it's money for nothing.
Buoyed by this I started looking at some "make a fortune using adsense" style cack on the internet, and it all boils down to traffic. If you have some, you can make a residual income from adsense. If you don't have traffic, you can't.
Overall I'd recommend it.

I set up an account for my mate the bagpiper. He gets about 70 enquiries a month. Much more than he can cope with. Costs him almost nothing as there isn't much competition for pipers on adwords.
Webdesign would be a whole nother story though.
