so i freelanced at a big firm months ago and they never paid me my final pay cheque until recently. It was only due to mistakes that i never got paid and not due to them trying to not pay me or anything. Anyways after about 4 months making phone calls trying to get through to the right people they finally pay me. BUT they pay me way too much. and then 4 days later they pay me more again. one payment was a cheque and it seems as tho they forgot they already payed me my first invoice.
what the hell do i do?
if i dont give it back will they catch up with me and demand that shit back or what?

thats a true dilemma bro,
if you end up returning it - make sure you get a receipt from them
maybe keep it in your bank account for emergencies and after a year cant you keep it?

im hoping theres some kinda loophole like that.
- krust0
man, that kinda shit never happens to me!
- g3kk0k1d0
you could spent it all on lottery tickets and you could win
its your destiny
- g3kk0k1d0
ok, when they ring you, just deny it altogether, have no knowledge of it, tell them you didnt recieve it to your knowledge but you will check your statements and get back to them if its there, if its a huge mother of a company they will just leave you alone
- agentfour0
mmmm possibly. Im hoping they may not realise. but when they do tax and accounts for the month...i could be fucked.
- g3kk0k1d0
put it in another account and leave it there and say the bank just took it for your debt charges,
they prolly wont relise and when they do you will have forgotten all about it - moved on - unfindable - too much effort to track you down and get the money about
- jox0
Call them and claim you STILL haven't seen a dime. Eventually they will have paid you so much fucking money they don't know what's what and you will have WON MEELIYAN DOLLAR! Then, 4 months later when you've spent it all on on hookers and fine wine, you call them again and say "PLEASE, I'm not asking for a lot, sir, but I have to feed my kids".
Or, you could just hold on to it for a little while and see what happens. Don't spend it yet though.

hookers and booze sounds like a plan.
anyone wanna go party with some free money?

what you mean go on benefits? lol

Most cheques from large companies are void after 180 days.
Also, I'm all for sticking it to people - but this is a sure way to go to court.
I hope the first cheque was enough to cover lawyer costs, hehe.
- blastofv0
yeah dude, give it back
they'll figure it out more likely than not, and they can track if a check has been deposited or not, so don't bother playing dumb like you never got it
the benefits of honesty here far outweigh the shit you could find yourself in if you take it and they track down their error
but wait, how much are we talking about? roughly?
- ********0
+Plus ...
Do you ever want to get work from them again?
- blastofv0
or a reference to another agency thinking about hiring you
be a pro man, it'll be worth it in the long run

mm the cheque was deposited months ago. That wasnt the error. They owed me for work done later than that. I didnt get paid for 4 months. They fucked up in so many ways.....they never took tax from the first cheque. then they deposited the pay they owed me plus the money they already gave me in a cheque straight into my account. Then they deposited even more in which i have no idea why.
No i dont want to work for them again....but i dont want to burn bridges. Just in case i have to one day.
And we're talking close to £3000.
- enjine0
well there you go... if they direct deposited it to you... then you never had a hand in the transaction.
that changes everything.
- agentfour0
what does that mean tho? Im not responsible?
- ********0
Give them back the last deposit, to show that you are honest. Keep everything else.
- blastofv0
did you send them formal invoices?
if you hold the money and shit goes down, what will the paper trail look like?
i agree that if it was directly deposited, it's a bit easier to play dumb
and who knows, if they were that sloppy paying you in the first place, maybe they won't find out
just watch your karma, if you're into all that
- agentfour0
i gave them 2 invoices.
the second one i had to give them 3 times. first they said they didnt recieve it. second time they said they never got it but apparently it was cancelled. Third time they got it and finally fuckin payed me..........too much. I feel like keeping it because i got the runnaround for 4 months and theyre as efficient as a turtle in a gimp mask. but they did pay me on time the first time and i have no real beef with them apart from the lag in pay.
just dont want the shit to catch upto me if i spend it.
