I remember reading that article, probalby when it came out. Was he talking about dreamless?
no wonder I am so bored these days, no wonder I dont care about these 'style' kids anymore, they can do whatever they like I couldn't care less. I am become death, destroyer of worlds.

I think a lot of you are missing what he stated in the article, that the purely functional portion of design, the problem-solving, 1 dimensional communication design strives to achieves is formulaic, templated. It's why every speed limit sign on the side of the road looks the same.
Style keeps things interesting, and a designer should not be considered "less-than" for being a stylist and a designer, especially when the communication goal can be served so well by, heaven forbid, paint drips, 45 degree lines, and whatever else trends appeal to the masses.

a pretty acute assessment, and if the article were written today, he might be citing other 'popular' designers we often rant about on these boards. it's easy to get caught up in style, cuz well, it's interesting to look at and talk about, but let's be honest, style/trend 'design' rarely addresses or solves fundamental 'design' problems.

nothing wrong with talking, albeit NT doesn't exactly have a track record of meaningful discourse..
