are they good? im in the uk
- philipc0
I love 'em. Been using them for two years. Often have discounts, frequent upgrades to available services -- and they recently started upping storage and bandwidth _every week_ for all users. Before too long, I'll have enough space to back up my iPod.

They killed my parents.
- philipc0
lol, mimio -- I contacted Dreamhost they said they were decommissioned :)

yeah sound good, my choices are mt, dh or site5, im in the uk thyough so support might be an issue. Convince me...

I'm uk and have been with them for 3 years, there was a blip about a year ago, but everything has been plain sailing.
I don't know why your worrying about support I've never needed to contact them! What you doing that needs massive support?
- philipc0
Good point -- they do have 'callbacks' available for most plans (more for higher priced plans) but those are only for us customers. Still, I've never had reason to call them -- most support these days can be handled through email.

sure, but I'm not hot on web stuff, just fairly self tought and can do what I can do, so support might be good. However, Dreamhost do look v good at the mo

I'd say you get what you pay for.
I have a ton of space, and massive bandwidth, but service is slow and definitely not consistent.
E-mailing is a bit of an issue. On the Dreamhost forums, there are a number of people who experience quirky issues with their methods. Personally, I've had times where it's taken a huge amount of time for someone to receive an e-mail from my dreamhost account.
And their Cpanel is not as clean or intuitive as some of the other web hosts I've previewed or used.

i dont have a problem really. Sometimes setting up a new MYSQL DB takes a few hours instead of minutes but other then that...no worries.

Dreamhost has very poor email reliability. Not much (non-existent) in the way of support to help fix it. Was a reliable customer who referred a good amount of business there way and still didn't get taken care of.
Quit them and moved to (mt). Happy with where I am now.

craig,
i have a dreamhost account.
their control panel isnt quite as good as MT, but they are faster to upgrade their shared servers.
They have php5, ruby on rails, and miva for cheap.
BTW - you get $90 off of a 1year signup if you use my discount code.
just enter supersimple in at the end of teh ordering process. it ends up being around 20 bucks for a whole year.TR1
ps. i am going to try to get ssbs v2 up early next week.

nothing but problems, sincerely. dont do it.

I pretty much had the same experience as everyone else: really happy with the space/price/speed but not so impressed with the service or the control panel (it's not terrible, but it's not a selling point really). It took a little digging to get my site set up and all the settings right, but since then it's been good. I've been with them for over two years now.
They've bumped my storage up over 100 GB since I started. I Can't complain about that.

I've got my photoblog (in my profile) with them and haven't had too many problems at all, and for what I paid the problems are neglibible.
The general consensus is: if you need reliable email don't use them. If you need immediate assistance don't use them.
Otherwise I think they are good.

I have used them and haen't seemed to have any problems, but I am starting to wonder if I have been missing out on emails now :S

I host a slew of sites over at site5, a few on (mt), and a few on dreamhost. Those guys at site5 are the best on the customer service/support and I've never had any problems at all with them, (mt) and dreamhost on the otherhand have had a few hiccups over the years...
I recomend site5 all the time, and they support Ruby on Rails. I don't believe (mt) or dreamhost do.

dream host support ror

Prices are good if you don't care about uptime or reliability or support.
Unf'ly, my clients do. They all pulled out w/in 6mos of signing up.

i've basically got nothing but good stuff to say about dreamhost.
i'm a happy long-term dreamhoster after having bounced around with a bunch of different hosts before landing with 'em.
