Written by him. Diary entry a day. From 1976 to his death in 1987. It's 1000 pages long.
It's Mick, Liza, Halston, Basquiat, Bianca, Liz, Margaret, Elton, etc, etc, etc.

"Business art is the step that comes after Art. I started as a commercial artist, and I want to finish as a business artist."
warhol is one of the original performance artists. like his paintings or not he definitely defined the role of the artist post AbEx. Culture vs. technique reified via classical portraiture. Very clever nonetheless.

I think he's one of the smartest artists who ever lived. Everything was calculated. He had no time for "suffer for my art" bullshit. He loved money. He loved art. Figured out a way to have lots of both.

agreed. warhol is one of my favorite artists. But he's kind of a sad case too...reading the diaries can get depressing quickly. Though they were transcribed from phone conversations so that might be one of the reason why they feel so distant.
But even his statements about how he never needed a wife because he had a tape recorder is pretty lonely sounding.
i think post shooting he just became a silver shell.

A lot of that stuff was part of the act. Poor lonely genius Andy and all that. I think he was having a ball, right up until his death.
