so i'm trying to get a shopping cart going. I know i have a few options. like paying a monthly rate for it or paying a programmer to do it.
what's my best option? i'm just a print designer so i wouldn't know where to start.
THANKS

um, if you're happy to mod intermediate php, then
http://www.oscommerce.com is a great open-source cart with 000's of mods and a good community behind it..

since you don't want to mod anything, then you use a yahoo store , paypal store, or just become an ebay seller.... I would use osCommerce, but you already nixed that one

buy it now from paypal is extremely simple, i think they even generate your button link code so you dont have to do anything but cut and paste!

i've recently done quite a bit of research into this and oscommerce looked far from secure (wouldn't even install under php5 because it requires reg-globals).
MIVA sales failed to return my calls several times, so maybe they dont like selling shit or maybe I'm just clueless. Either way - I haven't found anything that I'd use that.

Do you guys know a good solution that would release a file after paypal (or whatever) payment confirmation?

http://www.x-cart.com/ is another one, not to pricey. Never used it though, but its been recommended a couple times

i know paypal can allow download after payment. not sure how, but i have seen it before.
simplebits.com icons do it that way if i remember right. he may have even written a journal about how it works. if not - email him.
