Is there a way to distort text so it looks like it is placed on a ball?
would it have anything to do with placing a symbol on the surface of a graphic that has "3D revolve" effect on it?

might want to look at the filterIt plugins for illustrator. there's 3D wrapping if i'm not wrong.

hi Dancer... you sorted this yet?
You're exactly right, revolve an arc to create the sphere, then map the type (as a symbol) onto it.
Showing my age but it's pretty much the same as long-lost Adobe Dimensions... :-)

Thanks,
yeah that is the right kind of thing, a sort of "spherize" filter but for illus.Unfortunately this is for concepts only and I cannot justify a $150 plugin for that.
ANyone know of a cheaper way??

Yeah you start with a half-circle (line) and revolve it to create the sphere. Then map the text...
OK?!
- MrT0

Why don't you just use the Object>EnvelopeDistort>MakeWithW... tool? Then select the "inflate" option and play around with the settings.

I never received a card... I'm guessing Xmas. Sorry fella. Thanks anyway!
