Arlington is beautiful, i lived on Cambridge/Arlington line (mass ave) but probably not a good choice if you'll be working in southie.
Depends what you can afford and whats closer for you, North end is awsome, Charlestown is pretty cool. Affordability i'd say Jamaica Plain, Dorchester?
Stay out of Brookline (kinda snobby, parking $$$$$) and Fenway (congestion, no parking)

ha, JazX! A psychologist might suggest that you are projecting but not me...just sayin'
Thanks guys. I'm so psyched. Just gave my notice. Home free now. :)
Greedo, if I can't live with you and yours you should at least help me find a place. I think its only fair, when you think about it. ;)

Honestly, if you have the money it's all about Coolidge Corner and Brookline. So clean and nice and quiet if that's your thing... Plus there is a TRADER JOES which will change your life when it comes to grocery shopping.
The South End itself is a great place to live and there are alot of new lofts going up. Check out the Piano Craft Guild building. Kind of a younger, artist oriented building...

I'd say stick with looking in the South End. That's where you work anyways!

monkeyshine, you are correct, I have been know to project things.
Vomit and spit are both considered projectiles!
;)

Thanks, Red. Yeah, I'd like to stick with South End or JP. Think South End might be too pricey for me though.
Ooohhh...you work at Modernista (drools). Best place in Boston!
I don't suppose anyone would have any leads on web producer/project manager jobs, no? My sweetie is moving with me and looking for such a job.

monkeyshine, congrats and welcome back to Boston!
JP is great, big apartments, good prices, some great bars.
I'm by Davis Square in Somerville....so far my favorite place I've lived.
The job market is picking up drastically in Boston over the last few months. Hopefully it won't take a nose dive back down as I will also need a new job in another month as my contract is ending. I'm sure your lady friend will find something in no time.

welcome to boston, monkeyshine.
first off, the bars around here close at 2, gee. its only in the suburbs (like braintree) that they close at one. also, the night owl service has been discontinuted, greedo. i guess no one was using it.
second, someone mentioned living in charlestown. whatever you do, do not live there. unless you want to be in a bank while its robbed (it literally has the highest bank robbery rate in the country) or have to deal with all the kids addicted to OC's that live there.
greedo is right, JP would be a sweet place for you. if you are going to work in the south end, i suggest living JP as your commute would be rather easy. but, allow me to throw west roxbury into the hat. west roxbury is god's country (god actually grew up there). its nice, clean and somewhat affordable if you are only looking at apartments. its got both the urban and suburban feel at the same time.
one thing you need to know when you get here is that there is an anna's taquieria on harvard st and in coolidge corner. they make the best burritos.
and jazx is right... i bite... hard.
