im creating a poster in Adobe illustrator with Vector and bitmap content. For the finished file for the printer, is it best to outline all fonts first in the illustrator file before creating the PDF or embedding the fonts in the PDF.

Always best to outline text, when saving files for the printers.
In my experience this saves alot of time money and keeps the relationship with the printer sweet.

get on the phone with the printer and ask...depending on their pre-press set up, peronsal preferences, etc. the details will be different every time.
some printers will prefer that you leave the fonts alone and send the font source files.
