I've found pdfs to be more effected and its always worked for me. Its just on how you present it...

phatlee you work for wash design?

I'm Partial i like tangable portfolios you can hold but PDf's are so easy. so I like both.... I am in the process of making a mini book hand bound and stamped with a rubber stamp of my logo. I think it can work as long as it is represented to the right people.
Usually HOW magazine has a good self promo issue once a year, which gives great ideas.

thanks for the advice Bukka, How do you go around creating your own book then?
- bukka0
Well i am making a small 5x5 book showcasing some case studies, logos etc. I am not sure how I am going to bind it, maybe sew it and then send them as a promo package to potential clients.
There are different ways to bind books, i am still researching exactly how I want to do it.
I got rubber stamps made online, I ordered Pantone ink and I will stamp the cover. That s what i am doing so far. email me if you want.

If you go to my site -
http://www.blueprintmedia.caand go into the portfolio section, the first item in editorial is my book that I send out "25 Samples", the one displayed is not my current one, but you get the idea...

it's actually just coil-bound, that way to update it I snip the coil reprint covers and add more pages and rebind it...

yep, I saw him before I moved to Holland like 5 months ago, he was moving back to the UK. He's a cool guy that i've had the pleasure of drinking with on many occasions...

had a few pints with him myself back in the day..i remember after i graaduated, it was murder trying to find a gig..people at the time only wanted OCAD grads..period..
i finally got an interview at an agency a few blocks away from teh college, and at the end of the interview, the production manager looked at me and said,
hey..us george brown grads gotta stick together!..you're hired...thought i'd have a heart attack..
that was the first time i was glad i'd gone to that school

for a cheap, industrial-looking, but still stylish. i like using these:
http://www.staples.com/webapp/wc…
the prongs on each side fold in and then those sliders in the middle hold them in.
used with a raw paperstock cover, it looks sharp.

save your layouts as images and upload them to the iphoto book making service. it's kind of pricey, but where else can you get a linen bound custom one-off portfolio professionally printed in small runs?
- bukka0
iphoto thing looks nice, its not too pricey for what you get. never thought of that...
- crag0
ye i never thought of that either. but it is a one off im looking at making around 50 copies.
