So I am coming from a PHP/MySQL background and since my webhost has Coldfusion but MySQL not SQL Server I have looked everywhere for a solution for connecting to MySQL with Coldfusion / I found this article -> http://tinyurl.com/86f5l but I keep getting this error -> Connection verification failed / can anyone shine some light on this

Usually you would set up a datasource through a simple UI in the CF Admistrator. If the host doesn't allow you access to it you may have to contact the host to get them to set up the connection for you.

the dont allow access this is true and they say they support mysql data sources but i havent found any support files for that (gearworx.net) but i do have sql server and access to vtc.com tutorials for sql server -> maybe i will just go ahead and learn that

no you need to have a datasource specified...kinda like:
then whatever you are doing... like "insert into yourTable

Just talk to the host and have them set it up for you.

the host hasnt gotten back to me but i found a way locally to use the mysql connector cf is installed with / its a matter of using the old password method for users accounts ->
./bin/mysqladmin -u root -p
mysql> SET PASSWORD FOR
-> 'some_user'@'some_host' = OLD_PASSWORD('newpwd');and then i use this little script to make things even easier ->
http://tinyurl.com/bk3unthe thing i have to get now is gettign the host to allow access to change the user password on the remote server / we'll see if that goes over
