looking for advice (i think my accountant is too busy doing peoples taxes to return my calls):
* who's on part time payroll and freelancing at the same time... ?
my self-employed career has always been working full time independently.. a client now wants to put me on part time payroll, which will knock back my annnual taxable freelance hours at least 50%.
how will this affect my status as being "self-employed" and will it limit the benefits, such as the amount of home office expenses i can claim?

you can still be freelance. just ask for 1099 status. thats what i do

Mixing payroll and home office expenses is a red flag to the tax man I'm told.
It's do-able but you will definatly become a target for an audit in the eyes of Revenue Canada.

same here... i file the w2 for my part time design job and for freelance they send me 1099's.
It all goes under your SS# so it shouldn't cause problems

what exactly is the title of 1099 status? i'm in canada so it'll be different class names.
so as long as you still qualify as self-employed (i think its 20% income has to be from other clients), the amount you earn on the side does not affect what you can deduct?

if you request not to be a regular payroll employee he will not refuse - its in his best interest. he would rather pay you as an outisde source for his taxes, so if thats what you want then all the better.
