i need to pick up a decent PC desktop in nyc tomorrow. where should i go? J&R? Best Buy? I need a workhorse machine but can't wait for dell...below 1k...any recs? thanks.

i've already got the latest release g4 pb with 1.5gig of ram. flash doesn't run well on it. thanks for the comp usa tip, which brands would you recommend? HP?

I use a mac, but dell was one of my favorite pc's which you can find new on craigslist:

HP and Compaqs are great workhorses, and the parts in them are generally tested quite thoroughly. I've been on a P42.8 workstation from HP for 2 years and it has never ever not once blue-screened on me.
Mac users may think 'big deal', but IMHO that's a freakin' miracle with a windows machine.

i bought a 17" dell LAPTOP off of craigslist, last spring for a little more than a 1K - i kept waiting for it to break, but coming up on a year and it's 100%.

mac mini = crapDELL is good, HP is good.
