hi, i'm looking to consolidate a couple of sites and perhaps a few client's sites as well, why is media temple such a popular host? what makes them so great?

It seems more like a cult brand for graphic artists, and it is. I am currently hosting my site with them. The specs and the pricing speak good to me and they seem like a realible company even though wed mysite was down, even newstoday, but some how minority of people were still able to access those site so I am confused

I don't get it. A cult hoting brand?
what's the reason for this? and why do people link to them? do they get a discount for such advertising or something? stilll a mystery...

i have not been happy with MT, they seem to make everything a lot more difficult than it should be.
- jonLWLP0
also, does anyone else have the problem with FTP clients on a mac, i have to use their shitty web ftp client.

jonWLP,
i've never had a problem logging in with transmit, cyberduck, or cuteFTP for OSX - something on your end maybe?
as for mt's customer service, it's what makes me link to them over and over again.
- rasko40
yeah I get trouble logging in with transmit, and what is the deal with having 'http docs' and 'main website' folders, whch appear to be the same thing?
- nuarmy0
ones probably a virtual link, but don't quote me on that.

dreamhost (dh)

Of all the hosting services, (mt) is the only one I never heard one complaint about, so I went with them.

man, this debate comes up every week or so. it's as unimportant as the PC vs. Mac debate. waste of time. choose one you feel confident with and go. it aint like the costs are prohibative with any of them. if it's for a client then you're just billing them for it anyways and if you're only way of making money is from a meagre amount by going the cheapest domain hosting you can find then you may want to relook into your business plan.

I'd be weary about the suggestion of Dreamhost.
They're not exactly the most reliable when it comes to their e-mail service.
