I've got a massive text document that I'm working on.
Is there a way to select text in threaded boxes, where I select all the text from a certain point on to the end of the text? I could manually drag my cursor, but the document is massive!
Any help would be great. Thank you

insert beginning selection point > shift + down arrow (hold down till its done)
or
insert beginning selection point >go to end of doc and shift + select

//thanks mg! i didn't know how to do that!
- mg330
me neither but just gave it a try on a pretty long document.
Love InDesign though. I've barely scratched the surface of what can be done with it.
Next thing I'm hoping to learn about is the XML component of it.
Need to figure out how to add multiple external documents into it.
EX: We have single page Word bios for all 65 of our attorneys.
We also have pages for different service folders in Word. If I update a single attorney bio, I then have to edit it in multiple service files.So...will be looking to filter single pages into larger InDesign files to make editing and creating folder materials much easier.

you mean like linking a word .doc to InDesign whilst keepin the style when the .doc gets updated?
- mg330
Yes, hopefully. I've already been using linked documents in, say, an 8 page newsletter, but when I do that the style goes away when I update the InDesign file.
Any way around that?
And BTW, not doing anything with XML.

mg33 - I'm working on that transition now so all print & web bios and practice group summaries feed from the same XML document.

Have you read the Adobe tutorial on XML for InDesign?Very slick indeed.
www.adobe.com/products/indesign...I thought the poster wanted to just select downward from a midpoint to the end, not the entire copy block. That's where the shift down arrow key comes in handy.

doh. botched the link.

I'll check it out. Thanks. Going to be a big project of mine in April or May.

yeah i've not used any xml functionality in InDesign. I should learn that.
So there's no way to select from a point on with out doing it manually?
- zombiewoof0
insert selection anywhere in text > shift + down arrow (hold down till its done)
or
insert selection anywhere in text >go to end of doc and shift + insert at end of selection

quadruple click in the text box (as long as they're all linked).

quadruple click in the text box (as long as they're all linked).

--------------------------------...That will not select all text. 4 clicks only selects all the text in that particular paragraph.
5 clicks selects everything from beginning to end of a linked document.
