    I am using a PC at the mo and was wondering ifthere is anyway of setting photoshop as the primary software to open images?

    Right click on the image file. This will bring up the right-click menu. There will be an option to "open with". This will then give you a list of potential programs to open the file with. Select the bottom option "choose program" This will bring up a dialog where you can choose the .exe by browsing your system. There will be an option to tick that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" - make sure that is ticked.
