yo
I've started switching static informational .html files built in Dreamweaver over to .aspx file extensions (on the insistence of our client, long story, no way to avoid it).
for some reason, when I test the pages in FF or IE, I'm getting this error:
but it all depends on how I load it up. sometimes it's fine... do I need some sort of script in the head of these pages to let browsers know that it's an .aspx page that should be displayed as is? or do I need to take something out from the DMWV code?
help?!

damnit, now I've posted it to our staging server, and in IE it's showing up (dragging real slow), but on Firefox it's just displaying the sourcecode?
wtf?
anybody know the quick fix for this? i'm no developer if you coudn't already tell.
thanks!

Just changing a file to .aspx, does not actually do anything.
Do you have all the necessary .NET installs on the server?
- blastofv0
yeah, I figured just changing the extension shouldn't affect browser display
and no, I don't have .NET stuff on our staging server...maybe that's the problem then?
what if I remove the:
""
crap in the head tag? might that help or is it irrelevent?
thx

Your server needs to know what to parse your .aspx files with, else it just thinks it’s a file lets the browser determine what it should do with it. What web server are you using? If IIS, you will need to install the .NET framework from the windows components and make sure the extensions are mapped.

Heh, I'd definetly install .NET Framework 1.1 (with HotFix) on your Staging Server.
As far as the "", I'm not really sure.
It is to my knowledge that all .aspx files should start with "".
And inside the , have any references to 'inherits' and 'codebehind' files.

D'oh, now I know why "" showed up for, and me, haha.

thanks guys – yeah, we have a simple hosting account set up to post all sorts of print and web projects for client review...but we have never had to deal with .NET stuff before.
I think I'm just going to post it in a subdirectory on their current site (which is handling it fine).
I love programming!

I love programming too, heh.
Except for the fact it has now officially taken up all of my time, and I open Photoshop or Illustrator once a month now if I'm lucky. :X
