Detect Progressive Jpg

I've recently run into a situation where I cannot control the files provided to my flash movie. The movie was failing and the problem turned out to be both missing image files and several progressive jpgs. At least I assume they are progressive as they will not load into flash and when opened and saved from photoshop they then load fine.
My question is two fold.
1) Is there a way to detect the progressive jpgs at all? I've checked their IIS reported mime types and even opened them in aspjpeg to check the progressive flag with no luck. In my flash movie they load and I check width throwing away 0 width images, but that feels cludgy.2) When flash runs and does a loadMovie to a missing file you get a nice error in the trace window saying the file is missing. However I cannot find a way to find this in actionscript. Im checking for a file size of -1, but I have to allow 2 seconds of looping because flash reports -1 until it gets the file information back from the server so on dial up most images would report -1 for at least a fraction of a second.
Sorry for the huge post.
Thanks

Not sure if you can check for progressive jpg's. All the cms systems I have used have just had a warning not to use them. As for the lack of file, why don't you just have a timer on the check. If after 15 seconds the file size is still -1 go to an error.

have you tried using 'onLoadError ' from the MovieClipLoader class. it might work, I've not tried it tho

I have not used the movieloader at all yet as no client wants code above 6.0 yet. I read on it and it looks like that will help in the future. Thank you.

MovieClip loader is available in 6 so shouldn't be a problem
