Managed to get my hands on a copy of this flick this weekend. Best HK action flick since Hard Boiled. Samo Hung and Donnie Yen killed it. Great fight scenes (well over five major set piece/fight scenes), great story, great dialogue. Most of these flicks since 97 have been lagging, mostly in the story department, but I think this movie shows why this genre was born in Hong Kong. Not a simple cops and robbers plot, lots of subtext and conflicts. And the ending was perfect. Definately worth picking up on ebay.

I dunno why Donnie Yen isn't a huge star here yet. Hopefully he'll start showing up in some american films, I think he speaks perfect english, he was born and lived here until he was 13.

i concur, SPL is electric and very refreshing.
If you've already watched Tom Yum Goon and feel some withdrawal in the ass-kicking department then I suggest you pick up a copy. Angry Sammo is great to watch and there's enough tension in the movie to make your worst constipation nightmare come true.
Be sure to get the uncut version which would be as close to the 97mins original cut as possible.
Be sure to watch out for Jet Lee's "fearless" his final period-setting martial arts movie.

one thing sadens me is that how HK cinema is going down due to pirated movies.
most of the big movies are now funded by China.
and ppl say, pirated movies dont hurt.
