...does not knowing how to draw make your work good? someone must know the answer to this puzzling phenomenon.

i think johnd is referring to recent design fad of ppl drawing crap and say that its art.
alot of hand sketches etc etc
i think its a style that communicates to a particular audience. something raw and everyday about it.
it take talent to draw bad.
but you should know how to draw before you can draw bad

Haha. I thought of that thread too. Not seen him around much of late.

who decides what's bad?

whose work inspired you to start this thread?

probably the same people that think they can build websites because they own dreamweaver...

dreamweaver is a great tool. just like me

i've just been noticing it a lot. not like "good" bad drawings, but just bad drawings, ie bad lineweights, composition, colors...
i agree it communicates a style, the style being "i cannot draw well at all".
i guess i'm just curious as to why well illustrated pieces of design seem so much less prevalent. or is that the next trend?

reaction against high production values prevalent in media? imperfection as signifier of vitality and honesty?

That's usually how I feel about musicians who can't speak intelligently about music theory, Bach, counterpoint, Charlie Parker, and cannot write anything down.
But I also know that just with design and drawing, natural talent exists and can transcend the training within craft.*steps down from soapbox.

is it really neo-punk if it's sponsored by so many corporations now? i mean urban outfitters, cingular, nike have all featured this type of design lately. how can any type of punk movement stand for this?
