Enter topic: Im writing my BA final Dissertation on Symbolism and Iconography. I aim to show that this form of graphic representation can be easily understood and easily recognised.

I will be doing a test soon which i will post, to gather a large survey.
but any help in these early stages would be a great help.

Sounds like a waste of time, I mean, everybody knows symbolism and iconography can be understood, thats why we use them (assuming they have been well designed).
But I guess you just want to prove it.

My suggestion would be to make a quiz type thing with multiple choice or fill in the blank
there are even different categories:
product marketing
traffic
industry
etc.hope for 100 users taking it
(my advice use several forums)you might need a comparison quiz though, something similar in format but seperate in that it would use company taglines (text) instead of logos and decriptions of traffic and other signage
then between the two you could prove your theory if the quiz scores were higher on the icon quiz over the text version

yes that is the plan, essentially this dissertation runs alongside my major project in which i am trying to simplify complicated instructions through design.
i know that simplicity is the key, and is the key to an undestandable symbol.i like the idea of the quizes, i think i will take this up.
