Curious:
Those from other places, what do you think of this town? Those who live here, what do you do for diversions?
Moved here from NYC, and now thinking I made a mistake...

could not disagree more.
DC is a rad, rad place. if you like the "standard" as cities go- DC is not that. it is a huge asterisk in everyway but that is it's appeal.
for diversions there are more than can be listed. the art scene is huge, bars are great, political critique/related events are great and the diversity as a true international city are fantastic.
there have been a bunch of threads about this recently, might want to use the Find as well for more info.

sorry but,
- where are you living in DC?
- what do you like to do?
- when did you get there?
- if you are still going to georgetown for fun i am going to have to punt you....;)
- TenaciousG0
No, don't live or go to Gtown. Just moved to U street, and I'm seeing signs of life there. As far as What I do? I mostly write (music and stage/screen plays) and wander aimlessly
- TenaciousG0
And I checked past posts, but I wanted to know more, so I asked...
I know how people on this board can be about re-posting old stuff...

... any good interactive shops in DC? I know AKQA & RGA are there... any others that you know of?
i wanna come back! ;)
- madirish0
no, no- all love here from a fellow NW DC kid. :)
U St. is sweet for sure, as is 14th there. as i see what your likes are, it is too bad 'Visions' closed (indy movie theatre w/ tons of music stage shows) as it would be up your alley.
do you check out any of the gallerys down on 14th and P area? they have a good set of events. places like Transformer, FUSEBOX, ect. the play house it there as well which just got remodeled and has a nice expanded list of events w/ the new space. there is also a cool club in columbia heights (~harvard and 12th maybe~) that is supposed to rule for indy, local music. good electronic down tempo as well.
and as many are probably tired of hearing- Mount Pleasant has the best bar in DC; Tonic. :) suuuuuuper local and chill. great specials and decent grub.

RTC is great:
http://www.rtcrm.com/lots, and lots of smaller shops pumping out great work. you looking only for the big boys?
- rkp0
Size definately matters. :)
The smaller shops always pump out the good stuff... looking for small, independent, cutting edge... big clients, small firm.

It's def not as hot as NY, but DC is one of the greatest cities in the US. I love it here. All the free concerts, museums, event, rallies. There is always something going on. Plenty of amazing places to eat, good clubs and pretty laid back people. Give it a chance. You won't be sorry.
- TenaciousG0
Been to a couple of places near 14th and P, but none of the galleries. I'll have to check it out.

Hirshhorn has best openings but if you a have any press credentials at all get on press mailing lists by contacting their press office. Worth working it for national gallery, hirshhorn. Corcoran is a whore and Philips Collection is always mediocre.

I'm originally from DC ( potomac/ Bethesda) . live music is amazing. always a show. 9:30 club is fantastic, and they know how to get shit done.

Lived there for many years. It is nothing like NYC, so comparissons don't really work. Here is my short list of fun things/places:
1) Thur nite at St Ex 14th/R. Go downstairs. The DJ's are all over the map. Garage, electronica, mashups, anything goes.
2.) Have drinks on the patio at the Fox and Hounds 17th/Q. Clearly a warm weather diversion, but just people watching Chanel17 is worth the wait.
3.) Take a sketch pad to the Zoo. Its free. For that matter all of the big art galleries on the mall are free.
4.) Find a pick-up soccer, or ultimate game.
5.) Go to Gravelly point and watch the planes take off right over your head. I don't think Homeland Security has shut it down yet.
6.) Get creeped out at the Natuional Museum of Health and Medicine http://www.roadsideamerica.com/a…
7.) Play chess in DuPont Circle. Catch one while your there with a local bike courier.
8.) Have a soul food breakfast at the Florida Ave Grill 1100 FL
9.) Mt. Bike through Rock Creek park. Or road bike it on weekends when they close many of the roads to cars.I could go on, but it's making me homesick.
