What do you say, how do you respond when a client says "make the logo bigger" and making it bigger looks like shit?

make it way too small to begin with, so that when he asks you to make it bigger it's just right
failing that, make it just the right size in the elctronic version you post on your portfolio website

then tell him in your professional opinion the logo is taking up too much space on the screen and pushing everything around it out.
maybe ask him how big his logo is on his business card?!? hopefully you can talk him into getting the picture.

Well what he's saying is "I want my company name to be more prominent". And chances are, he's probably right. So suggest & show alternative methods that will bring more emphasis to it without ruining your design.
- Up the visual contrast.
- Increase the negative space around it.
- Move it to a more eye-catching spot on the page.etc.

I'm going to use every FX layer effect in Photoshop and make the logo 400% and tell them I'd like my cheque. Then upload the smaller version and tell them I don't know what went wrong and move to China.
