Anyone know how the design scene is out there?

Hawaii sort of has an ebb and flow effect in terms of finding work. Some months all the agencies are looking for desingers. Some months you are working in the computer lab at Kinko's making business cards for some construction company.
The agencies in Hawaii love mainlaind talent. To the point where is you move here from a large market and you have some sense of design skill you will be hired quickly. The talent part of the talent pool here locally usually goes to the mainland.
In terms of creative expression and having the time to develop unique and elegant solutions for a wide variety of clients, dont expect it. Hawaii is the place where washed up designers from the 80's rule as creative directors. People here talk about creativity but rarely exhibiit it.
Bottom line if you want a paycheck (expect it to be smaller than most other markets) and do not mind doing mediocore work, but get to spend more time in the ocean and sun than most humans, please come by.
