I'd like to know peoples opinions on the recent publications from the DTI and Design Council in relation to creativity in business.
It may have deep effects on the design industry in the UK.

saw this on newsnight. Creativity is turning out to be very important. Steel factories in Sheffield have started making profits again because they've hired designers to design cuttelry. I think more people are becoming design conscious too, not just in product design, and it will give any business an edge. However, i fear, the Indians are very much up to speed with Western tastes, more than we give them credit for, and they are alos investing heavily in design orientated business practices.
Graphics, web, motion, product, all of that shit is being done over there. I think design will give business a competitive advantage in this counry, but the Indians have cottoned onto the same idea, and i'm not sure we can compete. It's all part of the grander scheme to swtich to a "knowledge" economy (immmaterial labour) - but that's at the presumption that India and China will stay still, producing look cost services and manufacturing. They will not. India especially is putting great tract into the "knowledge" sector.
I think this initiative is valuable and necessary, i just don't know how Britain as a Design centre or a creative hub will compete effectively in the global community. Hopefully alongside our European partners.
Anyway, more jobs for designers... for now...
