so ok, if i google for a certain type of image, in this case, road cycling and find some sweet photos but alter them/change them in Pshop - are they mine to use?
in other words, do i have to reference where they were taken or ask for permission, pay them royalties, etc?

thanks and probably an easy, no brainer but i just wanted to be doubly sure.

sorry, mate, but no you don't have the right to use that image with the permission of the owner. the fact that the images were found through google doesn't make them part of the public domain. you need to ask for permission.

umm... if he creates something just as a concept and not selling it... and not pawning it off as his own.(must give credit to the owner)... I think he can use it...cause he aint making money off of it but just trying to show his skills....not clear though.... its like if you create a fake portfolio piece redesigning nike and put it in your folio as a concept piece...or even if you create something that you actually did pitch to a company but they didnt accept it...
but to be safe...just go to istockphoto...grab something there for a few bucks...and do that...then you have the legal right without questions...
