Enter response:Hey cobler. Can you be more specific as to what "cutting" means? Is it playing and then suddenly stopping? Does it never play at all?

If you've set it up the same way I did (and got the same problem):
you need to make the timeline long enough - just make it a few thousand frames long and then cut it back to where the mp3 finishes.

to be more specific -- I downloaded an mp3 file. I can play it thru quicktime - and it plays through.
when I import that into flash - it cuts it down - meaning - it only plays like the first 1/2 second of the whole file.
I can see a wavelength in the timeline - but its only that 1/2 second part.
and I have plenty of frames for it.

1st double click the sound in our library and test the sound from thre to see if it is being cut off even from there. If it isn't do the following. Try adding a totally new layer selecting a frame on that layer and then adding the sound to that layer. Don't copy and paste frames with sound since things get screwy sometimes. If the sound is cut up whe checking in the library then i would re export the sound from a sound application before pulling it in.

yea - its cut off in the library as well. unfortunately I don't have anything to manipulate the original with. I'll figure something out.
thanks for the help though. appreciate it. :)

Enter responseDoh. Pushing out frames was my first reaction as well. Have you looked in the edit section yet? Is there a ramp down or envelope that cuts it out? Do you have an action shortly after it begins that jumps it somewhere else on the timeline?
If possible, you could post your file and we could take a look. I understand if it's for a client etc. and posting for public viewing is a no go.

yea - I can't post it. I'm gonna do it without audio for tomorrow's presentation - and go from there. never happened before when I imported - so I was stuck. maybe the 'ole mac is acting up! ha. thanks.

I finally figured out the "enter reponse crap." Ah the pains of being a forum newbie.
Anyway do you need it to sync with the animaton in the timeline or does it just need to play in the background as a music bed?
You could just create a sound object and then use loadSound to load the MP3 externall and set the stream parameter to true. That way you can avoid importing to Flash for now.
Anyway good luck.
