Mix CD's – because I'm a fussy git, and don't want my artist list peppered with random artists from compilation/mix albums, I don't import them.
What's the best way to avoid this? What do you lot do? Is there an app which will join them together?
Help!

What are you getting worked up about?
Don't convert them at all. Just use iTunes as a CD-player
Once you convert and import you can move them around within iTunes into folders and subfolders, etc.

I know what your saying, but unless you rename the artist to something common (and therefore lose it) you end up with hundreds of new artists with only 1 song... sounds trivial I know, but that kinda thing bugs me!

or change the artist name for all the tracks to the name of the DJ

Thats why I don't browse by artist, I create a playlist for every album I import - and only sort through playlists. Because normal albums do it too, if they colab with somebody.

(Jan 11 06, 13:20)to clarify.. stick the CD in, highlight all the tracks, go to advanced/ join (you'll see them become a group) and then import as you would.
if you dn't like the way the resulting mp3 is tagged, rename it.

Ah yes, sorry... I was looking in the prefs > import options...
I'll give that a bash... cheers!

or as most of us have:
you could get over it and leave us out of it

there's also an itunes script or 2 that will join mp3's.

you could also put the artest name in the composer slot then common name all the artest to the DJ, thus not losing any info. but thats alot o' copy and pastin'
